For nearly two decades, A Troop of Echoes has explored the outer wilds of rock music with the saxophone front and center. Emphasizing melody and tight songcraft, the Providence quartet brings together post-rock atmospherics with the raucous drive of post-punk, carving out a space in the instrumental landscape that’s uniquely their own. This approach culminated in their most recent full-length album, 2015’s “The Longest Year on Record.” Recorded in their warehouse space with a cadre of musical friends, the album is lush and ambitious, marrying the aesthetics of DIY indie rock with the scale of a chamber orchestra.
Eight years later, A Troop of Echoes is back. INFINITE HITS is a series of mixtapes that captures AToE at their most raw and energizing: the crowd noise, the electrical hum, the spooky-good moments of collective improv that never made it onto a formal release. Carefully curated from hundreds of hours of live shows, demo tapes, and other sonic debris spanning 2005-2022, INFINITE HITS is an essential snapshot of one of the genre’s most innovative bands taking risks, pushing themselves, hitting paydirt, and having a deliriously good time.
